You wake up in LAX

By Jason Goldstein — July 22, 2011

It's been a while since our last post. Randy moved to New York, I'm still hanging out Kansas City, but today, we're meeting up in LA for the Action on Film International Film Festival.

Loss For Words is playing on Saturday (July 23) and 4pm. We've been nominated for Best Comedy and Best Actor (Gary C. Warren as Grady Sullivan). It'd be an understatement to say we're honored and excited.

But it's also a reminder that there's something different about what we do. We're screening alongside movies that were made on much nicer cameras with a lot more money.

We like to say we're "story first and story last." And I think it pays off. The audience doesn't really care what camera you shoot on so long as it looks good - and while they don't look like much, our little $800 HV30's have had no problem wowing the crowd.

Would we stick to cheap cameras forever?

Well, no. I wouldn't mind having audio equipment that doesn't behave like an antenna when the cables wrap around the camera crane. We inadvertently wound up recording AM talk radio to the tape. Randy described this trick as "demon voices," which is sort of the same thing.

But it does tell us that we've been putting our efforts in the right places: acting, writing, cinematography.

If you happen to be in the LA/Pasadena area, come see Loss For Words on Saturday. If not, don't worry - we're planning shows in KC, Chicago, New York, and St. Louis.

But as always, we want to this right, so we appreciate your patience.
